Child Neurology

Clinical training is Harbor-UCLA Medical Center’s greatest strength and child neurology is no exception. Here you will see a large volume of inpatients and outpatients with bread-and-butter child neurology issues, as well as extremely rare diagnoses. As a child neurology resident, you will be on the child neurology consult service for a total of 12 months spread out over the three years. You will have 12 months of adult neurology which is split between the adult neurology ward service and the adult neurology consult service. These 24 months are primarily inpatient months at Harbor. The remaining 12 months is elective time where most residents do neuropathology, neuroradiology, neurophysiology, neurorehabilitation, child psychiatry, pediatric neurosurgery. The current child neurology resident has also done epilepsy, neurogenetics, and autism electives. You also can spend your elective time doing research. Outpatient training occurs simultaneously during all three years. You will go to a weekly child neurology clinic where you will follow many of the same patients throughout your residency. You will also go to a weekly adult neurology clinic where you have your own continuity patients as well. Depending on what rotation you're doing, you may be going to more than one child neurology clinic, or the adult subspeciality clinics --headache clinic, botox clinic, multiple sclerosis clinic, neuromuscular clinic, neurogeriatric clinic.
