Neurology Department and Service

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center has 7 full-time neurology attendings and 12 volunteer faculty with privileges who actively supervise the ward service, the consultation service, and clinics. The neurology ward rounds are made daily with an attending neurologist and the neurology consultation service rounds twice a week. A full-time attending is available on call 24 hours a day. The primary responsibility for management and evaluation of the patients rests with the residents while the attending neurologist serves as a teacher-consultant.

The adult in-patient neurology service consists of a 36- bed neurology/neurosurgery ward and an 8 bed neurological intensive care unit. The neurology ward service provides patient care for over 850 patients annually. The consult service sees over 1,400 patients annually on medical, psychiatric and surgical services. Ambulatory Care is divided into several clinics. The continuity of care clinic is held weekly and provides residents with the fundamentals of outpatient care in neurology. The subspecialty clinics are held weekly and include neurodegenerative disease, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular disease, and headache. Neurology residents see over 3,000 patients annually in these clinics collectively. The Pediatric Neurology Service provides consultation for approximately 20% of all pediatric admissions. There are approximately 72 neonatal/pediatric beds available at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. The pediatric neurology clinic provides patient care to over 1400 children a year. Clinics are staffed in part by the child neurology service.
